Mobile City Council honors artist Apollo Dunn for contributions to African American culture

Despite not taking formal art classes, his passion for creativity flourished, leading him to win multiple scholarships and competitions throughout high school.

Dunn's professional artistry took flight during the COVID-19 pandemic when he convinced local lounge owners to let him create his first mural. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of a career that has since blossomed into a powerful exploration of black culture, resilience, and empowerment through various artistic mediums. His work serves as a beacon of hope and a testament to the importance of cultural awareness.

During the meeting, Dunn expressed gratitude for the recognition and shared his aspirations for the future. He emphasized the need for more public art in Mobile, highlighting the potential of the city's empty walls to inspire and uplift the community.
