Chopsticks Asian LLC expands Umi Sushi restaurant size in Ellicott City

Chopsticks Asian LLC, operating as Umi Sushi, is set to expand its Ellicott City location, a move that could significantly enhance its dining experience. The restaurant, currently occupying a 2,000 square foot space with a 250 square foot patio, will grow to a spacious 3,480 square feet, complete with a 970 square foot patio. This expansion was discussed during the Alcoholic Beverage Hearing Board meeting on July 8, 2025, where owner King Feng Lin outlined the plans for the upgraded venue located at 8167 Main Street.

During the meeting, Lin confirmed that Umi Sushi has held its current alcohol license since September 2019 and has maintained a clean record without any alcohol-related violations. He, along with his wife, Yumin Chen, is certified in alcohol awareness training and will ensure that at least one of them is present whenever alcohol is served. The restaurant is also preparing to have a manager trained in alcohol awareness to further comply with regulations.

The expansion aims to enhance the restaurant's offerings, allowing it to serve a wider range of beverages, including beer and wine, which Lin believes will attract more customers and improve the overall dining experience. The board's discussions indicated a positive reception to the proposed changes, with no objections raised during the hearing.
