Meow Dog Animal Rescue collaborates with Lucy Beckham High School on animal care program

The Mount Pleasant Special Town Council Meeting held on July 8, 2025, highlighted the significant contributions of local volunteer organizations, particularly the Meow Dog Animal Rescue and the Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant.

During the meeting, officials expressed gratitude towards volunteers who dedicate their time to support community initiatives. Meow Dog Animal Rescue, a registered nonprofit, collaborates with the Lucy Beckham High School veterinary sciences program to provide shelter and medical care for animals in need. The organization relies heavily on volunteers and donations, successfully adopting out several hundred animals over the past few years. Their efforts not only help animals but also provide students with valuable real-world experience in animal care and community service.

The Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant was also recognized for its longstanding commitment to community service, operating under the principle of "service above self" for over 47 years. The club has initiated various programs, including Backpack Buddies, which partners with the Lowcountry Foodbank to supply food to students, and Happy Feet, which has provided over 5,100 pairs of shoes to local children since 2007. Additionally, the club has distributed more than 26,000 dictionaries to third graders and awarded scholarships to local high school students.

The meeting underscored the importance of community involvement and the positive impact of local organizations in enhancing the quality of life in Mount Pleasant. As these programs continue to grow, they aim to foster a spirit of service and support within the community for years to come.
