Nixa Council approves water maintenance contracts and micropaving project

Nixa City Council made significant strides in infrastructure improvements during their recent meeting on July 8, 2025, focusing on water management and road preservation.

Water Superintendent Jason Stutzman presented the annual contractor program aimed at reducing inflow and infiltration (I&I) in the sewer system. The initiative will address approximately 90 manholes to prevent groundwater contamination, ensuring cleaner water treatment processes. The council swiftly approved the related resolution, highlighting the program's importance for environmental protection.

Stutzman also introduced a resolution for water tower maintenance services, which will involve soliciting qualifications from engineering firms for the inspection and cleaning of water towers. This essential maintenance, mandated every five years by the Department of Natural Resources, aims to ensure the safety and quality of the city’s water supply. The council unanimously supported this resolution, indicating a commitment to maintaining infrastructure integrity.

In another key decision, Street Superintendent Jeff Purcell sought approval for a contract with Donaldson Construction Company for micropaving services across Nixa. The council authorized a contract not to exceed $450,000, which will cover approximately 3.5 miles of road. This micropaving project is designed to preserve and extend the life of existing roadways, reflecting the council's proactive approach to infrastructure maintenance.
