Cheshire Town Council authorizes participation in insulin pricing litigation

This initiative has already garnered support from several municipalities across the country, including Meriden, Bristol, and Hartford.

The litigation is structured as a contingency case, meaning there are no upfront costs for the town. If successful, Cheshire could receive reimbursement for claims it has paid out if it is determined that overcharging occurred. Council members expressed optimism about the potential financial benefits, noting that the town has incurred significant costs related to insulin over the years.

During the discussion, council member Miss Ellard sought clarification on the reimbursement process, confirming that if the town overpaid for insulin, it could receive a proportionate share of any settlement reached. The council emphasized that this legal action represents a proactive step in addressing rising pharmaceutical costs, with the possibility of similar lawsuits emerging in the future for other overpriced medications.

The council's decision to engage in this litigation reflects a growing trend among municipalities to seek redress for inflated drug prices, positioning Cheshire among those taking action to protect its financial interests in healthcare costs.
