Edison Academy students celebrate inaugural prom and achieve early college program designations

The Brockton School Committee meeting on July 8, 2025, highlighted significant achievements and initiatives within the district, particularly focusing on student engagement and educational opportunities.

One of the key discussions centered around the Edison Academy, where seven current students recently completed 36 hours of hands-on lab training. Most of these students have also finished 45 hours of online coursework, positioning them to complete their program by June. Additionally, the academy celebrated its inaugural prom, described as a successful event that allowed students to connect and celebrate together. Principal Soraya Pres Prezame Kalikst and her team were commended for their efforts in organizing this memorable occasion.

Another major highlight was the announcement that Brockton High School and the Brockton Public Schools' Champions College Connect early college program received two official designations from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. These designations, one in partnership with Bridgewater State University and the other with Massasoit Community College, are seen as a significant investment in students' futures. They provide access to free college credit-bearing courses and real-world learning experiences, enhancing students' high school experiences and preparing them for post-secondary success.

Last year, Brockton High School had 350 students enrolled in 14 courses, collectively earning nearly 1,500 college credits. Among these, 100 students were enrolled in multiple courses. The Promise program also reported 80 students enrolled in multiple courses, along with 21 students from the therapeutic day school participating in at least one course.

These developments underscore the district's commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and supporting student success as they prepare for their futures.
