Coral Gables revitalizes Miracle Mile with historic preservation and new tenants

Coral Gables is set to experience a revitalization of its urban landscape, thanks to ongoing developments spearheaded by local business leaders. During a recent City Council meeting, Stephen Bittel, a prominent figure in the community, shared insights into the transformation of Miracle Mile and the surrounding areas.

Bittel recounted his childhood memories of taking the bus from South Dade to Miracle Mile, highlighting the area's historical significance as a vibrant shopping and dining destination. He emphasized the vision that has driven the growth of the area since the establishment of Terra Nova in 1980. The company has expanded its portfolio from eight buildings in 2004 to 15 buildings today, along with two office buildings on Alhambra.

A key focus of the meeting was the success of the Streetscape project, which has enhanced the aesthetic and functional aspects of the city. Bittel noted that the once-traffic-heavy Geraldo street has transformed into a bustling hub lined with restaurants, thanks to the introduction of outdoor seating and community events. This shift has energized the area, making it a focal point for both residents and visitors.

The preservation of historic buildings while modernizing the area was also a significant theme. Bittel pointed out the careful balance between respecting Coral Gables' past and embracing a forward-looking vision. An example of this is the revitalization of John Martin's, a long-standing establishment that has undergone modernization to ensure its relevance for future generations.
