Hunterdon Central celebrates championship teams including girls lacrosse and unified basketball

The Hunterdon Central Regional High School District celebrated a remarkable year in athletics during the Board of Education meeting on July 10, 2025, highlighting the achievements of various sports teams and individual athletes.

The girls lacrosse team was a standout, clinching the 100 and Warren Sussex County championship and setting a school record with 20 wins in a season. Emily Steinberg, with an impressive 58% save percentage, was recognized as a key player in defense, while Maggie Scally earned the title of academic All-American. Caden Brandt made history by scoring 250 career goals and was selected for the All-American team.

The girls softball team also shone brightly, becoming the Group 4 state champions and central group 4 sectional champions. Team members Jessica Yip, Lindsay O'Donnell, and Isabella Icangelo were present to accept accolades for their hard work and dedication.

The unified basketball team was celebrated for their back-to-back Group A state championships, showcasing the spirit of inclusivity and teamwork.

Bethany Ramos from the girls basketball team received recognition for her selection to the first team All-Conference and the New Jersey Basketball Coaches Association All-County team.

In bowling, Lucas Reid was honored for his achievements, including being named to the first team All-Conference and ranking among the top competitors in various tournaments.

The cheerleading squad, led by head coach Lauren Battaglia, was recognized for their impressive performances, including a top 10 finish at the UCA Nationals and multiple state championships.

The girls flag football team, in just their second year, achieved an undefeated regular season and were crowned Big Central Division and Sectional champions. Six athletes were named to the All-Conference team, with Angelina Tonori also selected for the Phil Simms North-South State All-Star Game.

The meeting concluded with accolades for the track teams, where individual champions and All-Conference selections were celebrated, including Molly Dumarrot, who set a school record in the 3,200 meters.

This gathering not only highlighted the athletic prowess of Hunterdon Central students but also fostered a sense of community pride and support for the school’s sports programs.
