Sierra Madre proclaims July Parks and Recreation Month with community events planned

Sierra Madre City Council has officially declared July as Parks and Recreation Month, highlighting the vital role that parks and recreational activities play in enhancing community health and well-being. During the regular meeting on July 8, 2025, Mayor Robert Parkers and council members emphasized the numerous benefits of parks, including improved mental health, increased physical activity, and economic growth through tourism and local business support.

The council's proclamation noted that parks and recreation facilities not only provide essential spaces for sports and outdoor activities but also contribute to the community's overall prosperity by boosting property taxes and attracting new businesses. In addition to the proclamation, the council announced upcoming community events, including summer movie nights at Memorial Park, featuring films like "The Wild Robot" on July 18 and "Inside Out 2" on August 1. The city is also seeking applications for the Senior Commission, which currently has two vacancies.
