El Paso County plans upgrades for Escoate Park amenities and festival area

Escoate Park is set for exciting upgrades, promising to enhance the outdoor experience for visitors in El Paso County. County officials recently discussed plans to revitalize the park, which has been a community staple since its completion in 1940. With its 48-acre lake, golf course, and family aquatic center, the park has long served as a hub for recreation and relaxation.

The renovations are part of a broader master plan adopted by El Paso County in 2021, which sought community input on park improvements. Future enhancements will include new picnic areas, improved walking paths, and the planting of additional trees—150 have already been added in the past two years.

One of the most notable changes will be the transformation of the former Western Playland amusement park site into a vibrant festival area, complete with underground electrical infrastructure to support various events and programming. This shift aims to breathe new life into the park's offerings, making it a more dynamic space for community gatherings.

In addition to these upgrades, officials are addressing the maintenance of the park's lake. Commissioner David Stout revealed that instead of draining the lake for cleaning, they plan to dredge it, as recent analyses show the clay liner at the bottom is in good condition.
