Scott Park addresses maintenance challenges amid youth sports surge

El Paso County is taking significant steps to enhance its recreational facilities, particularly focusing on the maintenance of golf courses and youth sports fields. During the recent Commissioners Court meeting, officials discussed the need for improved maintenance on golf course fairways, which have been plagued by weeds. In addition to golf course improvements, the county is experiencing a surge in youth sports participation at Scott Park. Last year, the summer league saw 150 teams, and this year, that number is expected to rise to 250. This growth presents challenges in maintaining the fields, but the county is committed to enhancing the quality of the sports facilities. Maintenance manager Ben Vaez and his team are focused on improving the diamond fields and flat fields used for soccer and football, ensuring they meet the high standards expected by the community.
