El Paso County plans major upgrades for Esquarte Park amenities and trails

Eskerative Park is set to undergo significant renovations following community feedback and voter approval of bond measures aimed at enhancing local amenities. During a recent El Paso County Commissioners Court meeting, officials highlighted plans to improve the park, which has been a cherished community space since its completion in 1940.

The park, spanning 48 acres, features a lake, picnic areas, and a golf course, but residents have expressed a desire for upgrades. County officials confirmed that new amenities, including pickleball courts and improved picnic areas, are on the way. "The improvements are just beginning," said Desiree Gonzales, a local resident, emphasizing the park's growing popularity, especially as warmer weather approaches.

Commissioner David Stout discussed the maintenance of the park's lake, revealing that a recent analysis showed the clay liner at the bottom is intact, allowing for dredging instead of draining the lake for cleaning. This approach aims to preserve the lake's ecosystem while ensuring it remains a focal point for recreation.

Additionally, the ongoing development of the Paso De Norte Trail, a 75-mile project connecting neighborhoods across the county, was highlighted as a key initiative to promote healthy living and outdoor activities. "The more opportunities that people have, I think, the healthier our community is gonna be," Stout noted.
