El Paso County earns Bridal Crown Medallion for fiscal excellence in financial reporting

El Paso County has received a prestigious accolade, the Bridal Crown Medallion, for its outstanding fiscal management, as announced during the Commissioners Court meeting on July 10, 2025. This recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association highlights the county's commitment to transparency and excellence in financial reporting, marking the third time El Paso County has achieved this honor, previously awarded in 2020 and 2022.

The resolution, presented by Commissioner Stout, commended the county auditor and the budget and finance departments for their professionalism and dedication. The county has maintained a remarkable record of financial stewardship, having received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 35 consecutive years. This achievement underscores the county's efforts to exceed minimum financial reporting standards and engage in best budgeting practices.

In addition to the financial recognition, the court adopted several resolutions, including one declaring May 18, 2025, as Project Bravo Day, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the community action agency that has provided essential services to alleviate poverty in the region. Project Bravo's executive director, Laura Ponce, emphasized the organization's commitment to supporting families in need, particularly during challenging times like the pandemic.

The meeting also recognized May 11-17, 2025, as Economic Development Week, highlighting the county's initiatives to foster job creation and enhance the quality of life through strategic economic development efforts. The county's economic development team has made significant strides in promoting local businesses and attracting new investments.

Furthermore, the court designated May 18-24, 2025, as National Public Works Week, honoring the dedicated professionals who maintain the infrastructure essential for community well-being. Public works employees were acknowledged for their critical role in ensuring the safety and quality of life for residents.

Lastly, the court recognized May 2025 as Historic Preservation Month, reinforcing the county's commitment to preserving its rich history and cultural heritage.
