Guymon City Council approves farmer's market expansion and sanitation truck purchases

The Guymon City Council convened on July 9, 2025, at 424 N Main Street to address several key agenda items, including community updates and infrastructure projects.

The meeting began with a discussion on the need for improved sanitation measures, particularly regarding overflow issues affecting neighboring properties and streets. Council members expressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness and preventing overflow from private properties.

Following this, the council received a report from Main Street Guymon. The director highlighted recent training for accreditation with the state, which provided valuable insights for local businesses. The first farmer's market of the season was also discussed, with 47 vendors participating and plans to expand into the Fifth Block of Main Street. The director noted that local businesses are encouraged to open earlier on Saturdays to accommodate increased foot traffic.

Next, the Guymon Chamber of Commerce presented its monthly report, detailing successful events, including a Fourth of July celebration that drew significant attendance. The chamber's upcoming golf tournament was announced, set for September, and community members were invited to participate in Rotary bingo events to support local causes.

The council then transitioned to utility authority matters, approving minutes from the previous meeting. A change order for Gates Utilities LLC was discussed, involving a contract price increase of $26,956 and an extension of 45 days for the ODOT water line relocation project. The council unanimously approved this change order.

Lastly, the council authorized advertising for bids for two new transport trucks for the sanitation department, acknowledging the need to replace aging vehicles that are no longer operational.
