Canton Moreno Dugath Early Childhood Center earns Healthy South Texas school recognition

The Bee County Commissioners Court held a special meeting on July 11, 2025, where several key topics were discussed, including a significant recognition for local schools and logistical considerations for upcoming events.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation by Kim Davis and Brandy Shower from the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. They recognized the Canton Moreno Dugath Early Childhood Center for earning the "Healthy South Texas Recognized School" distinction for the 2024-2025 school year. To achieve this honor, the school implemented various health-focused programs, including a youth program and an adult education initiative. Notably, all kindergarten students participated in activities that taught them about gardening and healthy eating, logging a total of 11,460.75 miles in the "Walk Across Texas" initiative. This recognition marks a significant achievement for the school and highlights the importance of early health education.

In addition to the school recognition, the court approved a request from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for a fee waiver for their employee Christmas benefit party. This collaboration allows the department to utilize community resources effectively, with inmates assisting in event preparations.

The meeting also addressed a pre-contract between EasyVote and Bee County for the elections office, which was tabled for further discussion. The court is considering feedback from other counties that have implemented the program, aiming to streamline the election process.
