Waste Connections unveils new recycling programs and trash pickup plan for community

The City of Cibolo is gearing up for a significant transition in waste management services, as Waste Connections prepares to take over from Republic Services. During the City Council meeting on July 8, 2025, representatives from Waste Connections outlined their plans to ensure a smooth shift for residents and businesses.

With 38 years of experience in the industry, Waste Connections' representative emphasized their commitment to seamless service. They introduced innovative programs for recycling, food cycling, and household hazardous waste collection, promising quarterly reports to keep the community informed about waste management metrics.

District Manager Zach detailed the logistics of the transition, noting that 1,400 trash cans were delivered on both July 7 and 8, with commercial deliveries set to begin shortly. Residents can continue using their Republic trash cans until the end of the month, ensuring no disruption in service during the changeover.

Council members raised concerns about communication and clarity regarding trash pickup schedules, particularly for neighborhoods with complex layouts. Waste Connections assured that updates would be made available on the city’s GIS hub, allowing residents to easily find their specific collection days.

Additionally, the council discussed the importance of notifying homeowners associations about the new service to prevent potential fines for residents who may leave their trash cans out too long. Waste Connections confirmed they would work closely with the city to address these concerns.

As the transition progresses, Waste Connections is also considering extending the deadline for residents to request additional trash carts, responding to feedback from the community. They are committed to assisting elderly residents who may need help managing their waste bins, ensuring that all residents receive the support they need during this change.
