Oakland School Board recognizes staff and announces 2025 enrollment updates

The Oaklyn Board of Education meeting held on May 20, 2025, covered several key topics, including enrollment updates, staff recognitions, and upcoming community events.

The meeting began with the approval of previous meeting minutes, which passed unanimously. Following this, the board opened the floor for public comments, reminding attendees to keep their remarks brief and relevant to the agenda items.

Superintendent's report highlighted the enrollment figures, showing a slight increase from 269 students in April 2024 to 272 in April 2025. The superintendent also recognized outstanding staff members, including Maria Populous, named Instructional Assistant of the Year, and Mr. McCarty, honored as Oakland Teacher of the Year for his 28 years of service.

The board expressed gratitude to the Oakland PTA for their support during Teacher Appreciation Week, which took place from May 5 to May 9.

Looking ahead, the superintendent announced that families would soon receive updated school calendars for the 2025-2026 academic year, featuring a new feature that allows parents to download the calendar directly to their phones and receive automatic updates.

Additionally, preschool enrollment letters have been sent out, and families are encouraged to secure their spots for kindergarten as soon as possible. The Healthy Kids Summer program will also return, running from June 23 to August 15, with registration information to be shared soon.
