Code enforcement in Palatka is undergoing a significant transformation, as highlighted by Christie Lowe, the city's code enforcement coordinator, during the recent General Budget Workshop. Lowe reported that the team conducted 50 lien searches each month, resulting in over $100,000 collected in lien searches and reductions. This year alone, they have already processed 135 cases through special magistrate hearings. The initiative, dubbed "Blight to Bright," has seen six properties undergo abatement cleanups, with additional support provided to homeowners facing financial challenges.

Looking ahead, the code enforcement team aims to enhance community engagement through ongoing meetings and collaborations with local organizations. They plan to implement a citation ordinance as an additional enforcement tool and are considering the installation of signs in neighborhoods to raise awareness about code enforcement activities.
