Norman Planning Commission approves billboard proposal amid neighborhood concerns

A proposed billboard in Norman, Oklahoma, sparked significant discussion during the July Planning Commission meeting, held on July 10, 2025. David Box, representing the applicant, outlined plans for a billboard on a 0.1-acre site, emphasizing that the design aims to minimize visual impact on the neighboring community to the west. Box noted that previous zoning requests for the site faced controversy, leading the team to opt for a more limited approach by maintaining the current zoning while seeking a specific use permit for the billboard. The operator, Sean Whistler, was also present to address any questions from the commission.

Community member Leslie Bennett Webb, a resident from the nearby neighborhood, raised concerns about the billboard's content and the future plans for the property, hinting at the potential for further development given the land's value. The commission, however, did not delve into these inquiries during the meeting.
