Commissioner Coleman Knight unveils Harmonic Park art installation plans for Daluke Park

The Parks and Recreation Commission of Pleasanton convened on July 10, 2025, to discuss the exciting developments surrounding the proposed Harmonic Park project. The meeting began with a presentation of concept designs for the park, which will feature unique musical instruments that are always in tune, allowing individuals of all ages and musical abilities to engage with them.

Commissioner Coleman Knight introduced a video showcasing the instruments, enhancing the discussion with auditory examples. The proposed installation will include a commissioned piece by artist Don Lewis, designed to be abstract and potentially featuring red shoes, a nod to the artist's personal style. The park will be located in Daluke Park, strategically positioned along a new pathway and in proximity to Veil Street, First Street, and West Angeles Streets.

Funding for the project is notable, as it will not rely on general fund subsidies. The commission reported a total of $137,000 in the art acquisition account, primarily sourced from donations by Nancy and Gary Harrington. A request was made to the city council to allocate an additional $100,000 from this fund, raising the total art acquisition budget to $110,000. Furthermore, the commission sought approval for $60,000 in county park dedication fees to support the art installation.

The meeting concluded with an invitation for public comments, indicating community engagement in the project. The Harmonic Park initiative represents a significant step towards enhancing Pleasanton's recreational offerings while fostering artistic expression and community interaction.
