Sandra Bryant honored as Pioneer Woman for community leadership in CD 9

The Regular City Council meeting held on March 31, 2000, featured a significant recognition of community leadership as Sandra Bryant was honored as the Pioneer Woman of the Year. The council praised her extensive contributions to the 9th Council District (CD 9) and her long-standing role as the executive director of the All Peoples Christian Center, a vital institution in the area for the past 16 years.

The meeting highlighted Bryant's deep-rooted connection to the center, having first engaged with its daycare program at the age of two. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in social work from California State Polytechnic Institute in Pomona and a Master’s degree in social work administration and planning from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She is also a licensed clinical social worker in California.

Under Bryant's leadership, the All Peoples Christian Center became a member of the United Way of Greater Los Angeles in 1984. Her active involvement with the United Way includes serving as chairperson of the corporate council of executives and as a member of the executive committee of the board of directors. Her efforts were recognized when the United Way named All Peoples the Community Impact Charity of the Year in 1998.

Bryant's accolades extend beyond her work with the United Way. She has received multiple awards, including the Labor Community Services Honorary Award from the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor and the Melvin Jones Fellows Award from the Lions Club, where she made history as the first female member and president.

In addition to her leadership roles, Bryant is involved in various community initiatives, including the LA Promise steering committee and the SPA 6 council of the Los Angeles County Children's Planning Council. Her commitment to youth and family services is evident through her leadership in programs targeting middle school students and her participation in the Jefferson High School Resource Coordinating Council.
