Mid City hosts community gathering and free backpack giveaway this Saturday

The East Baton Rouge Parish School District held a Committee of the Whole meeting on July 10, 2025, where several community-focused initiatives were discussed. The meeting began with announcements regarding upcoming events aimed at engaging the local community.

Board member Lewis took a moment to share information about a community gathering scheduled for Saturday at the Belfair Mid City Baptist Church, located at 5550 Florida Boulevard. This event is part of the Thrive Ministry and promises to offer a wealth of information and activities for attendees.

Additionally, Lewis highlighted a free backpack giveaway taking place on the same day at Woodlawn Middle School. The giveaway, organized by the sheriff's department, will start at 9:00 AM and will provide approximately 1,500 loaded backpacks to students in need, ensuring they are prepared for the upcoming school year.

The meeting concluded with reminders of future gatherings, including a regular meeting set for July 17, 2025, and another Committee of the Whole meeting on August 7, 2025, both to be held at the Central Office Boardroom. These events reflect the district's ongoing commitment to community engagement and support for local families.
