Utah County officials have taken significant steps to promote public land education and support organ donation awareness during their recent commission meeting on April 19, 2023.

The commission unanimously approved a resolution to contribute to the National Association of Counties' National Center for Public Lands. This initiative aims to educate communities, particularly those east of Colorado, about the importance of public lands for grazing livestock. The resolution highlights the necessity of keeping these lands accessible for grazing, which is vital for local agriculture. Many counties in Utah and neighboring states will join this effort, emphasizing the need to raise awareness about the extensive use of federal lands for grazing beyond the well-known national parks.

In addition to the public lands resolution, the commission also proclaimed April as "Donate Life Month" in Utah County. This resolution, brought forward by employee Robert Baxter, aims to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation. The initiative seeks to encourage community members to consider becoming organ donors, thereby potentially saving lives.

The meeting also included a decision to table a separate agenda item for two weeks, pending federal guidance, demonstrating the commission's commitment to thorough and informed decision-making.
