Kansas explores mobile units and co-responder models to enhance MOUD access

Kansas officials are taking significant steps to combat addiction through the expansion of Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) services. During the Kansas Fights Addiction Grant Review Board meeting on July 11, 2025, experts emphasized that MOUD, particularly when paired with behavioral health support, is the most effective method for reducing overdose deaths. However, they noted that the implementation of these services in Kansas remains limited.

To enhance MOUD accessibility, the meeting highlighted the need to engage a broader workforce, including primary care physicians and pharmacists. Currently, there is a lack of participation from these professionals, despite existing laws that allow them to prescribe and administer MOUD.
