Crafton Borough secures $375K for pedestrian and business district improvements

Crafton Borough Council convened on July 10, 2025, to discuss several key initiatives aimed at enhancing community infrastructure and recreational activities. A significant highlight of the meeting was the announcement of funding received for various projects that promise to improve the quality of life for residents.

The borough has secured $50,000 from the state of Pennsylvania for an energy audit of municipal properties, which is nearing completion. Additionally, Crafton received $325,000 from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) specifically earmarked for pedestrian and business district improvements. These funds will be utilized for enhancements such as lighting, seating, and trash receptacles, all aimed at boosting accessibility and the overall experience in the business district.

Council members noted that while the funding is substantial, it is crucial to adhere to the specific scope outlined in the grant application. Detailed quotes for the proposed improvements are currently being gathered, with plans to discuss these in the upcoming infrastructure committee meeting. Public input will also be sought as the project progresses, ensuring community voices are heard in the decision-making process.

In addition to infrastructure updates, the meeting touched on community events. Council member Miss Follinbach expressed gratitude for the successful July 4 celebration and shared upcoming events, including Fall Fest on September 27 and a Halloween mini-golf event on October 11. Ongoing activities such as yoga in the park and community creativity sessions at the library were also highlighted, encouraging residents to engage with local offerings.

The council also addressed community concerns during the public comment section. Residents voiced issues regarding property maintenance and the responsibilities of homeowners versus corporations, emphasizing the need for equitable solutions in neighborhood upkeep.
