Brunswick ISD announces winners of annual Name That Book competition

The Brazosport Independent School District (BISD) celebrated the achievements of young readers during its recent board meeting, highlighting the success of the annual Name That Book competition. This event, which took place in March, saw enthusiastic participation from elementary students across various grade levels, including a new bilingual division for K-2 students.

The competition involved teams reading books from the Great Texas Mosquito list, a curated selection designed by BISD librarians to match appropriate grade levels. During the event, teams were challenged with clues from the books, requiring them to identify the titles. The excitement and dedication displayed by the students, their families, and the sponsoring librarians were evident, showcasing a strong community commitment to literacy.

The first-place winners for the K-2 division were from O.M. Roberts Elementary, consisting of Kian Suvik, Madeline Sowers, Mabry Matthews, Bodie Alexander, Eva Speed, and Brooklyn Jordan. Their success was supported by sponsors Brandy Rowland and librarians Lindsey Carter and Amanda Croffler. Additionally, TW All Elementary also celebrated a first-place win in the bilingual division, further emphasizing the district's commitment to inclusivity in education.

This competition not only fosters a love for reading among students but also strengthens community ties as families and educators come together to support literacy initiatives. The BISD board meeting underscored the importance of such programs in enhancing educational experiences and promoting lifelong learning in the community.
