Brazoswood School Board approves $7.6M for new pool construction

Brazosport ISD is set to enhance its athletic facilities with the approval of a new outdoor pool at Brazoswood High School, following a recent board meeting. The board unanimously approved a guaranteed maximum price of $7,622,406 for the project, which is slightly below the anticipated budget of $7.7 million. Construction is expected to commence shortly, with plans to open the facility by December 2025.

The decision comes after extensive evaluations of the existing pool, which was deemed structurally unsound and not compliant with current UIL standards for water polo. The new pool will be strategically located adjacent to the new multi-sport field house, providing easy access for students and athletes. It will feature a competition area measuring 25 by 25 meters, along with additional warm-up lanes, temperature control, and necessary amenities such as restrooms and a scoreboard.

Funding for the project will be sourced from previously approved bond reallocations, ensuring that no new bonds will be required. This financial strategy has been praised by board members, highlighting the district's commitment to maintaining fiscal responsibility while upgrading facilities.

In addition to the pool, discussions included plans for the demolition of the existing structure, which will be filled in as part of the project. The district is also exploring potential funding options for this demolition in a future bond initiative.
