Brazosport ISD board approves application for optional flexible school day program

The Brazosport Independent School District (BISD) Board convened on June 16, 2025, to discuss several key agenda items, with a primary focus on the Optional Flexible School Day Program application for the upcoming school year.

Rodney, a representative from the Nebraska Success Academy, presented the proposal, emphasizing the program's alignment with BISD's goal to provide rigorous and relevant learning experiences for all students. The Optional Flexible School Day Program is designed to assist at-risk students by offering attendance flexibility, which aims to mitigate the effects of absenteeism. During the meeting, it was reported that the on-site flexible school day program at the Brazosport Success Academy served eight students during the 2024-2025 school year, with a graduation rate of 75%, an improvement from the previous year's 67%. The program allows students to be counted for funding based on actual contact hours, providing financial support to the district.

The board also discussed the Graduation Alliance, an online program that supports students who have previously dropped out or are at risk of dropping out. In the past year and a half, 57 students have enrolled in this program, with eight successfully graduating. The program offers flexibility and continuous engagement, allowing students to complete their education at their own pace.

The administration recommended that the board authorize the submission of the application for the Optional Flexible School Day Program for the 2025-2026 school year. The program is set to run from August 13, 2025, to May 21, 2026, with summer school continuing until June 5, 2026, for students needing to complete courses.
