Centennial High School celebrates powerlifting and indoor drumline championships

Burleson ISD celebrated remarkable achievements in student athletics during its recent board meeting, highlighting the outstanding performances of the Centennial High School indoor drum line and powerlifting teams.

The evening kicked off with a tribute to the Spartan Regiment indoor drum line, which recently competed at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. This year marked their fifth appearance in the Scholastic World Class, a record for any Texas school. The drum line also secured their eighth consecutive NTCA North Texas Indoor Championship, showcasing their dedication and hard work. Brent Smith, a representative of the drum line, praised the students for their commitment, stating, "The hours that these students put in are unreal. Absolutely incredible." The team placed fifth at the championships, their highest finish to date, solidifying their status as a top contender.

Following the drum line recognition, the board honored the Centennial powerlifting teams, who also had a stellar season. Head coaches Garrison Hendricks and Nick Stauffer highlighted the dedication of their athletes, with the girls' team winning all three meets they entered and achieving third place at regionals, the highest in school history. Notable individual achievements included Madison Delaney and Luis Bermea, who both qualified for state competitions, with Delaney finishing second at regionals and Bermea taking first.

Stauffer emphasized the balance these athletes maintain between academics and sports, noting that several students also received academic honors. "We got some strong lifters and we got some smart ones," he remarked, showcasing the well-rounded nature of the athletes.

The meeting concluded with a heartfelt acknowledgment of the parents and community support that fuels these programs, reinforcing the importance of teamwork and dedication in achieving success. The board's recognition of these accomplishments not only celebrates the students' hard work but also highlights the vibrant culture of excellence within Burleson ISD.
