District reports 64% math proficiency above accountability target for school assessments

Brazosport ISD is set to enhance its educational strategies following a recent board meeting that highlighted promising academic projections and ongoing challenges. The district's math performance is projected to exceed the 60% accountability target, with a current estimate of 64%. This positive trend is bolstered by curriculum-based assessments (CBA) that allow for comparisons across campuses, although they are not fully indicative of future standardized test outcomes.

Notably, Roberts Elementary School has shown significant improvement in third-grade reading, achieving an 8% increase since the start of the school year. Conversely, Austin and Polk Elementary Schools experienced slight declines, remaining close to the district average. In math, TW Aug Elementary led with a remarkable 16 percentage point increase, while AP Boyd Elementary faced the largest drop.

To address these disparities, the district is focusing on solid instructional practices and targeted interventions. Efforts include enhancing tier 1 instructional priorities and increasing writing opportunities across all subjects, as writing components are integral to many assessments.

In addition to academic performance, the meeting also covered updates from the Texas Federal Advocacy Conference. Key discussions included concerns over federal funding dysfunction and the implications of proposed education vouchers, which could divert resources from public schools. The board emphasized the importance of maintaining funding for essential programs, particularly in light of ongoing challenges such as teacher shortages and chronic absenteeism.
