Crescendo Group previews elementary school designs to district trustees

The Canutillo Independent School District (CISD) Board of Trustees convened on January 29, 2024, to discuss significant developments in their ongoing bond program, which aims to enhance educational facilities across the district. Ernesto Ortiz, program director with the Crescendo Group, provided an overview of the current status of various construction projects, emphasizing that the designs presented are still in the preliminary stages.

Ortiz explained that the design teams from multiple architectural firms, including Pfluger Architects and GA Architecture, are currently concluding the schematic design phase for several schools, including Davenport Elementary and Caboteo Middle School. He likened this phase to drafting a rough outline of a book, indicating that the designs are not final and will undergo further refinement.

A key aspect of the meeting was the recent community engagement efforts. Ortiz highlighted a well-attended community meeting held on January 16, where approximately 70 participants provided feedback on the projects. A survey was also distributed to gather additional input, which included both positive feedback and concerns from community members. This input has been shared with the design teams to ensure that community voices are considered in the planning process.

The board was reminded that updates on the bond program will continue to be communicated quarterly, with additional reports to the Community Bond Advisory Committee and broader community meetings. Ortiz assured the board that all questions raised during the meeting would be documented and addressed, reinforcing the district's commitment to transparency and community involvement.

As the district moves forward into the design development phase, the focus will remain on refining project scopes and addressing community concerns, ensuring that the final outcomes meet the needs of students and families in the Canutillo area.
