City Council approves new hire Tyler Dorr and plans annual Bible reading marathon

Humboldt County's Board of Supervisors made significant strides in their latest meeting, approving key personnel decisions and community events that promise to enhance local services and engagement.

The board unanimously approved the hiring of Tyler Dorr as a full-time facility employee at a rate of $23.50 per hour. Dorr, who began his role on May 21, will undergo both three-month and six-month performance reviews to ensure he receives the necessary support and training as he acclimates to his new position. Board members expressed satisfaction with the quality of candidates during the hiring process, highlighting the competitive nature of the selection.

In addition to personnel matters, the board also endorsed the tenth annual Iowa 99 County Bible Reading Marathon, scheduled for the week of July 4, 2025, on the courthouse lawn. This event, which has become a tradition in the community, invites residents to participate in reading scripture, fostering a sense of unity and engagement among local citizens.

The meeting also addressed the need for updates to the courthouse carpet, particularly following recent repairs to the drainage system. The board acknowledged that the existing carpet, some 30 to 40 years old, requires replacement, especially in areas affected by the repairs.
