GarageBand Charities donates $65K at OBX Rod and Custom Festival for local initiatives

The Dare County Board of Commissioners meeting on July 14, 2025, highlighted significant community contributions through the GarageBand Charities OBX Rod and Custom Festival and recognized July as Parks and Recreation Month.

During the meeting, representatives from GarageBand Charities, including Michael Tillett, Richard Quigley, and Sarah Hale, presented the impact of their annual car event, which has grown into one of the leading car culture festivals on the East Coast since its inception eight years ago. Tillett expressed gratitude to the county and local law enforcement for their support, emphasizing the festival's role in giving back to the community. This year, the event raised approximately $65,000 for local charities, bringing the total donations over seven years to over $250,000. Beneficiaries include the Children and Youth Partnership of Dare County, local food pantries, and various educational programs.

Quigley noted that the festival not only promotes car culture but also fosters community spirit and support for families in need. The commissioners praised the charity's efforts, acknowledging the positive impact on the community and the importance of such initiatives.

In addition to the charity presentation, the board unanimously approved a proclamation designating July as Parks and Recreation Month in Dare County. Spencer Gregory, representing the Parks and Recreation Department, highlighted the benefits of parks and recreational activities for community health, economic prosperity, and environmental well-being. The board also announced the upcoming Family Fun in the Park Block Party on July 18, which will celebrate the department's 40th anniversary and feature various activities for residents and visitors.

The meeting underscored the collaborative efforts within Dare County to enhance community welfare through charitable events and recreational initiatives, reinforcing the county's commitment to supporting its residents.
