Kent Cornucopia Days parade highlights community spirit and local leaders

The City of Kent held its Cornucopia Days Parade on July 14, 2025, showcasing a vibrant celebration of community spirit and local pride. Emceed by Tracy Taylor and Josh Mossberg, the event featured nearly 50 entries, promising a day filled with excitement and entertainment.

The parade commenced with the Kent Meridian VFW Post 6785, recognized for their dedication to supporting veterans and their families. They were followed by the American Legion Post 15 Color Guard, who honored veterans with their ceremonial presence. The Kent Police Department's Honor Guard also participated, highlighting their commitment to service and remembrance.

Mayor Dana Ralph and the Kent City Council made a notable appearance, with council members engaging with the crowd. Among them was Little Miss Sylvie, who joined the mayor in a golf cart, adding a touch of charm to the procession. The Kent Lions Club, instrumental in organizing the parade since 1938, was acknowledged for their ongoing contributions to the community.

Scholarship recipients from the Kent Lions Club Foundation were recognized, with students Jake and Carter marching in honor of their achievements. The parade also welcomed the 2025 Seafair royalty, including Queen Asilon and former Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best, who will serve as ambassadors throughout the Seafair season.

The Kent Historical Museum's Old Timers royalty, Gary and Jan Harwood, were celebrated for their long-standing ties to the community. The Benson Hill Cooperative Preschool showcased their festive spirit with colorful outfits and playful decorations.

As the parade progressed, the emcees reminded attendees of July being Parks and Recreation Month, encouraging participation in various pop-up events organized by the city's parks department. The event concluded with candidates for the Kent City Council, including Andy Song and Laura Jensen, who shared their visions for the community.
