Manassas School Board discusses education priorities and counselors' contributions

During the recent Manassas City Public Schools Board meeting on January 28, 2025, a strong emphasis was placed on the importance of school counselors and their vital role in supporting students. Board members expressed their gratitude for the hard work and dedication of counselors, highlighting their contributions to academic and emotional development.

Student representative Miss Blaidd kicked off the discussion by acknowledging National School Counseling Week, urging students to appreciate their counselors for the behind-the-scenes work they do. She reminded seniors to order their caps and gowns and promoted upcoming events like the Saturday Learning Seminar, which offers students extra academic support.

Board member Miss Bridal echoed these sentiments, praising the variety of courses available at Osborne High School and encouraging the board to continue expanding educational offerings. She also celebrated the Unified Physical Education Program, which promotes inclusivity in sports.

Mrs. Stevens provided a detailed overview of the multifaceted roles of school counselors, from academic planning to emotional support, emphasizing the need for manageable student-to-counselor ratios.
