Friendship High School celebrates DECA, Esports, and BPA state achievements

Under the bright lights of the Frenship High School auditorium, excitement filled the air as students, parents, and educators gathered to celebrate remarkable achievements in various extracurricular programs. The Frenship Independent School District (ISD) Board Meeting on May 19, 2025, showcased the talents and hard work of students in DECA, esports, and Business Professionals of America (BPA), highlighting the district's commitment to fostering young professionals.

The evening began with a proud announcement from DECA sponsors Rachel Abbatron and Nick Bomphedi, who shared that 16 students had advanced to the DECA state competition this year. Among them, two standout students, Saif Bernstein and Taylor Wallenberg, earned the title of DECA state champions, qualifying for the prestigious International Career Development Conference in Florida. DECA, which stands for Distributive Educational Clubs of America, engages students in competitions across various business disciplines, including marketing and finance. With over 293,000 members worldwide, the achievement of these students is a testament to their dedication and skill.

As the applause echoed through the auditorium, the focus shifted to the Frenship High School esports program. Coach Bridal Singletary proudly reported that the varsity Overwatch team secured sixth place in the state tournament, competing against 32 teams. The success extended to the junior varsity team, which placed nineteenth, marking a significant accomplishment for the only JV team at the state level. The Rocket League team also showcased their talents, finishing twentieth in their category. Singletary expressed optimism for the future, noting the impressive growth of the program over the past year.

The celebration continued with the recognition of the Business Professionals of America program, where 21 students advanced to the state leadership conference. Sponsors Wendy Jones, Molly Arellano, and Devin Moore highlighted the achievements of their students, including five who advanced to the national competition, with one student excelling in video production and another in banking and finance. The camaraderie and character of the students were evident, as the sponsors fondly recalled their experiences working with them.

As the meeting concluded, the sense of pride in the accomplishments of Frenship ISD students was palpable. These programs not only provide students with valuable skills but also prepare them for future careers in a competitive world. The evening served as a reminder of the importance of supporting and celebrating the diverse talents of young individuals, ensuring they are equipped for success in their endeavors.
