White River Innovation District construction progresses with bridge and road developments

The City Council of Indianapolis held a public information meeting on July 14, 2025, to update residents on the progress of the White River Innovation District, particularly focusing on the Henry Street Bridge project. This ambitious initiative is designed to enhance connectivity and infrastructure in the area, with significant developments already underway.

During the meeting, officials highlighted the collaborative efforts of various teams, including archaeology, construction, and design, which have been instrumental in advancing the project. The White River Innovation District is being developed in three phases. The first phase, currently in progress, involves extensive work on the west side of the river, including the completion of Henry Street from Harding to the river and the construction of the Alonco headquarters.

The second phase focuses on the bridge itself, with construction visibly progressing as piers are being erected. Notably, two beams were set on the bridge on the day of the meeting, marking a significant milestone in its development. The third phase, which will extend Henry Street from the bridge to Kentucky Avenue, is still in the design stage.

City officials expressed excitement about the transformation of the area, noting that it looks vastly different than it did just two years ago. They emphasized the importance of community engagement, encouraging residents to submit questions and comments via provided cards or through a dedicated project website.

The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with ongoing updates available online. This development is seen as a vital step toward revitalizing the neighborhood and improving access for residents, ultimately contributing to the broader goals of urban development in Indianapolis.
