Lewiston City Council approves zoning amendments for preschools and dwelling definitions

In a decisive move to enhance early childhood education in Lewiston, the City Council approved Ordinance 49-44, which amends city code to allow preschools as a permitted use in various zoning districts. This significant change, passed during the July 14, 2025 meeting, aims to streamline the establishment of preschool facilities by removing previous conditional use requirements.

City Planner Joel Plascon was present to address any questions from the council, which led to a swift motion by Councilor Spickelmeyer to combine the second and third readings of the ordinance.
