David Jernigan promoted to Division Chief of Training at Panama City Fire Department

The Panama City Commission meeting on July 15, 2025, celebrated the remarkable career of Division Chief David Jernigan, who has dedicated nearly two decades to the Panama City Fire Department. Chief Jernigan, who began his service on July 5, 2005, has risen through the ranks, showcasing his commitment and expertise in various roles, including driver engineer, fire lieutenant, and battalion chief, before being promoted to division chief of training in February 2024.

His educational background includes an Associate's degree in Business Administration from Gulf Coast State College and a Bachelor's degree from Florida State University. Chief Jernigan is also highly trained, holding multiple certifications as a fire officer and instructor, and has specialized skills in areas such as trench rescue, swift water rescue, and structural collapse rescue.

The commission highlighted his leadership qualities and the positive impact he has had on both his crew and the community. His contributions extend beyond daily operations; he has been a member of the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team since 2009 and was recognized as the Search and Rescue Responder of the Year in 2020.
