Norfolk schools prepare for new year with hiring and training initiatives

Norfolk Public Schools is gearing up for the upcoming school year with significant updates from the recent NE Board Meeting held on July 14, 2025. A key highlight was the introduction of Lynette, the new Director of Student Programs, who expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and shared her extensive background in education, including roles as an elementary principal and special education director. Lynette emphasized her commitment to addressing areas identified in a recent state file review, noting that a corrective action plan has been submitted and training for special education staff is scheduled for August.

In addition to Lynette's introduction, the meeting featured discussions on student services, including the collaboration with the Nebraska MTSS team to enhance academic and behavioral interventions across the district. The new school resource officers were also introduced, with plans for a strong partnership with the Norfolk Police Department to ensure student safety.

As the district prepares for fall registration, online registration is set to open, building on positive feedback from families last year. However, challenges remain in staffing, particularly in special education, with ongoing efforts to fill unfilled positions through a job fair and potential contracted teachers.
