Jonesborough Council approves sidewalk project and international storytelling festival

Jonesborough officials made significant strides in community development during the BMA meeting on July 15, 2025, approving several key projects aimed at enhancing local infrastructure and events.

The meeting commenced with the approval of a sidewalk refurbishment project on Second Avenue, extending from Main Street to the railroad tracks. Alderman Countermine proposed an amendment to include this section in the existing project, emphasizing its urgent need. The motion received unanimous support, ensuring that the sidewalk will be upgraded alongside other improvements in the area.

In addition to infrastructure, the board also greenlit the International Storytelling Festival, a beloved annual event that draws visitors from across the region. Alderman Countermine and Alderman Dixon both expressed enthusiasm for the festival, which celebrates the town's rich storytelling heritage.

The Jonesborough Locally Grown Winter Farmers Market was another highlight of the meeting, with dates set to begin in November. This initiative aims to support local farmers and provide residents with fresh produce during the colder months.

Moreover, the Pioneer Run, a 5K Glow Run scheduled for August 23, received approval, promising a fun and engaging event for the community.

Lastly, the board discussed the implementation of a flock safety camera system, which would enhance public safety by monitoring traffic and assisting law enforcement in tracking stolen vehicles and other offenses. This system has already been adopted by neighboring jurisdictions, and its introduction in Jonesborough is seen as a critical step towards improving community safety.
