Madison Heights arts program showcases 11 new pieces with DIA bus tour

Madison Heights is set to showcase its vibrant art scene with the launch of the DI Inside Out program, featuring 11 stunning pieces of art displayed throughout the city. This initiative, credited to the arts board, the active adult center, and Oakland County Park, aims to engage the community through a special bus trip hosted by the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) in August. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the stories behind each artwork, although the event coincides with the popular Dream Cruise, encouraging those looking for a quieter experience to join in. Interested residents can sign up via social media or the city’s website, with limited space available.

In addition to the art program, the city council discussed upcoming opportunities for community involvement. The clerk's office reminded residents that the council filing deadline is set for 4 PM on Tuesday, July 22, and encouraged applications for board and commission positions, with descriptions available online.

Councilor Rehbock expressed gratitude for the success of the Madison Heights Little League, highlighting the positive impact on youth participation in sports. He also celebrated the city’s tree-planting efforts, noting that they have exceeded the goal of planting 500 trees in five years, with many residents eager to receive trees for their easements.

The Parks and Recreation Commission is gearing up for the next master plan, urging residents to participate in a survey that will shape the future of local parks. Council members emphasized the importance of community feedback, encouraging all residents to voice their opinions to ensure their needs are met in the planning process.
