Ponchatoula announces Veterans Day parade featuring 101-year-old grand marshal George Van Zant

Tangipahoa Parish is gearing up for a significant Veterans Day event, with the announcement that 101-year-old World War II veteran George Van Zant will serve as the grand marshal for the parade on November 1. The council encourages residents to mark their calendars and participate in honoring local veterans and military families in Downtown Ponchatoula, emphasizing the importance of community support during this occasion.

During the meeting, council members also expressed their condolences for Lonnie Wells, a fellow councilman who recently lost his brother. The council urged the community to keep Wells and his family in their thoughts during this difficult time. Additionally, a moment of reflection was dedicated to the tragic loss of young lives in Texas, with a call for donations to assist affected families through the American Red Cross.

In other discussions, councilman Villard highlighted a successful team effort that resolved a water issue in Loranger over the Fourth of July weekend. He thanked various individuals and the Governor's Office of Homeland Security for their quick response and support in restoring water services.
