A new heat stress policy aimed at protecting county employees from extreme temperatures was introduced at the Washington County Board of County Commissioners meeting on July 15, 2025. Chip Rose, the director of human resources, along with training and safety coordinator Bridal Evercash, presented the policy, which is a response to a directive from the Maryland Department of OSHA.
The proposed policy is designed to safeguard all employees who may face heat exposure during their work, particularly in environments where temperatures exceed 88 degrees. This includes both outdoor and indoor settings. The initiative underscores the county's commitment to employee safety and aligns with state guidelines.
Rose confirmed that the policy meets the necessary state requirements and is ready for adoption. The board is expected to vote on the motion in the coming sessions, marking a significant step towards enhancing workplace safety in Washington County.
