Bonner County launches disadvantaged business enterprise program for DOT compliance

The county has disseminated a policy statement regarding this program to relevant departments and the business community, which includes both disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged enterprises. This dissemination was achieved through the inclusion of the policy in bid solicitations and requests for qualifications.

Commissioners reviewed the contract terms associated with the program, seeking legal confirmation on whether there are any obligations beyond standard DOT contract terms. Legal representatives indicated that the county's obligations remain consistent with previous federal assistance programs, with only slight variations in reporting requirements. The county has historically set DBE goals annually, although it often falls short due to the limited size of the DBE community in North Idaho. Nonetheless, officials noted that it is acceptable to set goals and make efforts to meet them.

The board unanimously approved a motion to authorize the chair to sign the policy statement, reinforcing Bonner County's commitment to supporting disadvantaged businesses in the region.
