Lone Star Casa unveils justice program for youth in Kaufman County

In response to this trend, Lone Star Casa plans to launch a pilot program on September 1, 2025, aimed at serving at least 25 youth in its first year. The program will utilize trained volunteers to act as guardians ad litem for these youth, helping them navigate the challenges of probation and connect with essential community resources.

The initiative seeks to address the lack of preventative programs in the county, as Rowe noted that existing resources are limited, relying heavily on schools and local organizations. The program aims to ensure that youth successfully complete probation, avoid additional charges, and envision a brighter future for themselves.

Commissioners expressed support for the program, recognizing its potential to provide additional resources for families and youth. They discussed the importance of community engagement and the need for more local volunteers to support the initiative. Rowe mentioned efforts to secure funding, including grant applications and contributions from local individuals, to support the program's estimated first-year cost of $95,000.
