Safety for students remains the top priority for the Natrona County School District (NCSD), especially in the wake of tragic events like Columbine. During the NCSD Board of Trustees meeting on July 14, 2025, discussions highlighted the extensive measures taken to enhance school security over recent years.

Superintendent Hensley emphasized the district's commitment to safety, noting significant investments in infrastructure and technology. "We have remodeled foyers to monitor who comes in and ensured there's only one entrance for the same reason," he stated. The district has implemented a computerized check-in system called Raptor, which requires visitors to present their driver's licenses for safety verification.

Additional security measures include the installation of cameras both outside and inside schools, regular safety training for intruder situations, and fire drills. The presence of School Resource Officers (SROs) was also a focal point, with the potential addition of more officers being welcomed by the board.

While these efforts have largely been effective, concerns were raised about a few students bringing weapons—albeit fake ones—onto school grounds. Hensley assured the board that these incidents were handled swiftly and effectively.

The meeting underscored the district's ongoing dedication to creating a safe learning environment, with plans for continued enhancements in security protocols. As the school year approaches, NCSD remains vigilant in its mission to protect students and staff alike.
