Jonesborough City Council Establishes Park Rangers for Enhanced Park Safety and Education

The Jonesboro Public Safety Council Committee made significant strides in enhancing community safety during its recent meeting on July 15, 2025, by approving an ordinance to establish park ranger positions within the city. This initiative aims to bolster safety and promote the use of city parks, which are vital recreational spaces for residents.

The newly proposed park rangers will be tasked with maintaining a visible presence in the city’s parks, ensuring the proper use of park facilities, and providing customer service to park visitors. They will also educate the public about the history of the parks and enforce park rules, including issuing citations when necessary. This move is expected to enhance the overall experience for park-goers and ensure a safe environment for various activities, from sports to family gatherings.

Committee members expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, noting that the park rangers will cover nearly 30 parks across Jonesboro, including popular locations like JoMac, Parker Park, and Allen Park. The goal is to have rangers available seven days a week, engaging with the community and addressing any safety concerns. Training for the rangers is currently underway, with plans to have them operational in about two weeks.

In addition to the park ranger discussion, the committee briefly touched on the need to revisit the city’s fireworks ordinance, a topic that has been pending for some time. While no decisions were made during this meeting, the reminder highlights the committee's ongoing commitment to addressing community safety and regulations.
