Springville City Council approves Sunpro's $10M lumber facility at Suntana property

The Springville City Council made significant strides in economic development during their recent meeting, focusing on the Suntana property, a 55-acre site near the new I-15 interchange. This property, historically known for its race car track, has been under city ownership since 2014, with the city fully acquiring it by 2020.

A key highlight of the meeting was the council's approval of a purchase agreement with Sunpro Corporation, which plans to develop a facility on approximately 28 acres of the Suntana property. This development is projected to generate over $50 million in sales tax revenue for the city. The agreement, finalized in December, involves the city paying just over $10 million for the land, with Sunpro responsible for installing necessary infrastructure, estimated to cost around $1 million.

The infrastructure work is crucial due to the site's raw condition, requiring stability enhancements based on recent soil tests. The development will not only create a lumber package yard, where builders can source materials for home construction, but it will also enhance the overall value of the property, setting the stage for future growth.

The council expressed optimism about the project, noting that it will include landscaping and storage solutions to mitigate visual impacts along I-15.
