Madera County Probation Department Proposes Name Change to Youth Correctional Center

During the recent Board of Supervisors meeting in Madera County, significant discussions highlighted the ongoing evolution of the local probation system, particularly the proposed name change of the juvenile detention facility to the Madera County Youth Correctional Center. This change reflects a broader shift in responsibilities and the demographics of those served by the facility.

Assistant Chief Jose Pantoja of the probation department presented the proposal, emphasizing that the current name no longer accurately represents the facility's mission or the population it serves. With the closure of the Division of Juvenile Justice, the facility now accommodates youth up to the age of 25, necessitating a more appropriate designation.
